Botalcura vineyard was actively involved in the Project of “Energy efficiency and climate change on the Chilean wine sector” The objective of the project was to canalize the interest of the Chilean wine sector about the climate change and the energy efficiency in a study that contributes with technical proposals to cover these items at a national level. Under the project seeks to understand the energy flow of the wine sector, which represents an innovative contribution to the methodology of measurement for this particular industry. Finally, it was created a manual to assist companies of this sector with tools to understand and begin to work effectively on these issues. The manual will be launched at the Annual Trade Tasting in UK. This publication was produced under the project of Technological Node "Energy and Climate Change". Botalcura carries on receiving the recognition from Wine Advocate. This time was the turn of: Nebbiolo and Syrah/Nebbiolo, both with 89 points in the edition of May 2009 by Jay Miller. The 2005 Nebbiolo contains 14 % Cariganan. Medium ruby-colored, it offers up earth notes, mineral, tar, and a briery, underbrush character. On the palate is has surprising depth, layers of flavor, and enough silky tannin to evolve for 1-2 years. Drink this singular wine through 2020. The Syrah-Nebbiolo El Delirio is medium rubycolored with aromas of tar, rose petals, and earth notes. Elegant on the palate and nicely balanced, this unusual blend comes together nicely in the finish.

Botalcura Winery continues to accumulate awards and international-level socres. The latest is for Cabernet Franc La Porfia 2007, created by Philippe Debrus winemaker and partner. The much-awaited results of the 2009 International Wine Challenge were announced at the London International Wine & Spirits, the UK`s largest wine fair. Philippe Debrus explains: Our la Porfia Cabernet Franc was aged in first-use french oak barrels for 14 months. The results is a deliciously complex wine with notes of black cherry, along with an aromatic panel of fruit and toasted notes that complements it very well. the palate is direct and well balanced, with soft yet firm tannins with good potential for aging, revealing the potency of this varietal. Botalcura is focusing its attentions on the female market, with a consumer campaign around a snap shot of a day in the life of a 21st century woman, taking inspiration from social habits - a glass of wine after work, relaxing with friends, entertaining at home, or an evening alone. El Delirio Syrah/Malbec is the biggest selling wine in the Botalcura range.
The brief was to capture the attention of women, who have been found to have more delicate and demanding palates.
Botalcura has run this successful campaign in Chile through a living showcase, featuring a woman in a wine store window. Botalcura hope to extend this campaign to other countries.
All bottles of Syrah Malbec will be accompanied by merchandising materials specifically targeted at women and will highlight the attributes of the wine.
